Hi All,

I am Kaldan007. I am planning to apply for a rapid grant from Wikimedia Foundation. With that grant, I aim to make Tibetan Wikimedia projects more accessible, authentic, and engaging for native Tibetan speakers by improving localisation, increasing the availability of authentic Buddhist sources, and expanding Tibetan knowledge on Wikipedia. Currently, untranslated or poorly translated interfaces and documents create barriers to contribution, authentic Buddhist manuscripts are underrepresented on Wikisource despite being the majority of Tibetan literature, and Tibetan Wikipedia lacks coverage of core cultural and religious knowledge. To address these gaps, I will organise localisation sprints with scholars, proofreadathons of Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts on Wikisource, and editathons on Wikipedia during major Buddhist festivals in Bodh Gaya, which gather thousands of monks, nuns, and scholars. These approaches have been proven effective across Wikimedia communities, and by leveraging this unique gathering, the project will empower Tibetan contributors, ensure more authentic and reliable sources are available online, and strengthen the visibility and accessibility of Tibetan cultural and intellectual heritage for readers worldwide. I would also like to hear what our Tibetan Wikimedian communities think about this idea, and who would like to volunteer to join me in organising these events in Bodh Gaya during November 2025 to January 2026, as this collective effort will make the project more impactful and sustainable. As you've mentioned, we truly need more contribution from those who are already members of Wikimedia, and also engage and encourage new members, so that the knowledge of traditional Tibetan Studies will enrich Wikimedia and benefit the users.

I believe the project is in its initial stage at present, and as the project progresses, I would like/request you to provide a tentative plan about the date & duration of the whole project, or date & duration of the separate parts of the project (proofreadathon, editathon, so on), so that interested volunteers or participants can plan accordingly.

I request the Wikimedia Foundation to release the grant, and urge the members to take part in this first, one-of-a-kind, project at Bodh Gaya. First Tibetan Wiki Editathon in Nepal

Hi all, Since there is reasonable number of Tibetan speaking community in Nepal, I would like to target few of the monastic institution in Nepal also. བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། Nepal is indeed a hub for Tibetan Buddhists and there are several monastic institutions, who would benefit largely from this initiative. Most of these monasteries already indulge in preservation and publication works on Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts, and also bring out new publications too, however they are mostly limited to print media on a local level. Introduction to Wikimedia will greatly enhance their ongoing work and pave ways for greater future prospects for the community there, and also the global Wikimedia community.
