The Baiju Monastery was built by Yaodan Gongsangpa and Tsongkhapa's disciple Khedrub Je in 1418. Its unique feature is that three sects. the Sa-kya-ya, Ka-tam-pa, and Ge-lug-pa, had their headquarters in it -- a rare phenomenon in Tibet. It also features its "Bodhi stupa", or "Kumbum" in Tibetan. Deemed as the symbol of the monastery, the spectacular "stupa" consists of hundreds of chapels in layers, housing about a hundred thousand images of various icons. Gyangtse, Tibet
